FYI: this is all my personal preference. ?
1. Winter Gear
A good pair of snow boots and a winter coat is essential if you live on the east coast. I live in Pennsylvania, so it gets pretty cold during the winter months. It’s important to keep yourself warm and bundled up during these times to avoid getting sick. Plus, if you spend a good amount of money on it now, you will save money later. It’ll last you for years if you take care of them properly because it’s only used for a couple of months of the year.
2. Groceries
You’re health is very important, so it’s okay to spend a little more on healthy things to eat. It’s better to spend now and feel good then to spend later on medical bills and feel terrible. Eating healthy however, doesn’t have to be expensive; a place like Trader Joe’s is a great option to get organic food options and they are fairly affordable.
3. Shoes
Have a couple of good pairs of shoes that will last you a long time. To avoid buying shoes multiple times, you need to continuously keep up with their care and use a handy dandy toothbrush with soap and water to clean them. I saw a tweet earlier that said you should also put some baking soda and detergent in the mix.
Give it a try on old shoes to see if it works because it can save you some coins in the long run.
4. Intimates
This particular one was a process for me. When I was younger Forman Mills was my go to place to buy bras ? because they were cheap. Then, in my later teenage years I moved on to places like Target and Forever 21. There quality was obviously better than what I came from but it was still lacking and I would find myself buying replacement bras all of the time (poking wires are the absolute worse.) From there, I moved on to Victoria’s Secret, which I absolutely love. They are pretty pricy but their quality is really great. Plus, you can always find a sale on their items right on their website or their app.
5. Books
Knowledge is power. Try to make it a thing every month to spend money on at least one book to enjoy. There are a couple of different options you can go with when buying books. You can use amazon and the kindle app on any of your devices to buy digital and audible books. Or you can actually take a trip to your local Barnes and Noble and purchase physical copies.
Books are important to spend on because they will give you the tools you need to see diffrent view points and gain so much knowdege about various things. The books can be fiction or nonfiction and it should be about things that you are truly interested in. If that is the case then you will look forward to reading them.
I am currently listening to two audiobooks, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons by Kevin Hart and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I actually got them for free on Amazon because they are doing a promotion where you get your first two audio books for free.
6. Experiences
Splurge on experiences! Go on trips and make memories because no one can take those away from you. Honestly things are just that, things, so spend money on taking trips with friends and family.
Maybe a study abroad program would be a good option as well. It doesn’t matter what it is, just explore and find out things about other places, people, and things. The world is so much bigger than us and our home towns and customs.
7. Invest in Yourself
The previous things also ties into this last one. Books and expereinces are for the betterment of yourself in the end. The investment isn’t tangible but you will reap the benefits in the long run!
If you have a business you need to spend money to make money. But make sure you are spending wisely. Materials that you buy should be able to be made back from what ever your hustle is. For example, I am starting an accessories business and the fabric and other materials that I have to buy is calculated to be made back plus some.
Conclusion
That’s what I have for now. Let me know in the comments section below what things that you think is reasonable to splurge on!
As always, thanks for reading!

Love this! I say splurging on clothes (with caution). Basic & causal outfits that you intend to wear numerous times need to be good quality. Old Navy/GAP is my fav & to save $$, you can always go to the outlets ?

Yes! It should be good quality if you are spending lots of money. Those places are known to have great quality so you are on the right track girl! Lol, I love that you added “with caution” because things can get out of hand fast.
Thanks for you comment! -Sally

Great post. I agree with everything on here especially the investing in experiences. Experiences are the greatest investments to have.

I can agree with the winter gear. I live in NY and it’s crazy and cold. Nothing is worse than frozen feet. Some other things from your list I agree with splurging on is experiences, investments (businesses, diamonds, and classic timeless designer bags), education (books, conferences, classes), and your health (food, fitness, vitamins).

Yes girl, if it lasts a long time then it’s worth it! & the frozen feet comment lol I go to school in state college which is basically in the mountains, so I understand that to the fullest!

I love this! I’m always buying quality things, but I love a good deal. Target is bae, but I like the sale rack at Lord and Taylor and saks too. lol People think I spend a lot, but no. I just buy off season or wait for a sale. Glad you included experiences and books. Some people just don’t wanna read these days. smh.
nabilaraine@gmail.com says
Yes, I always try to wait for those sales too. It may seem like you’re spending a lot to others but you know the truth lol & I think lots of people don’t like to read anymore because we are always stimulated by something else that takes less effort. But we have audiobooks now, so that should not be an excuse!
