This past weekend my friend, Nashay, and I took a trip to the Palmer Art Museum. First off, I think it’s amazing that Penn State has an art museum right here on our campus.
Unfortunately, this is only my third time going to the museum. I told Nashay that has to change and we need to utilize what we have here on campus, while we have it.
When they change up the pieces again we will make an effort to go see what new things they have.
On Sunday, they had some pretty nice pieces. However, I feel like there needs to be more black art in the museum. I found myself actively looking for pieces that I could relate to and it was pretty difficult. The only “black art” that we saw were of people in fields. I wasn’t happy about that.
But, it could also be the time of the year that we went. I say this because last year I took an African American Arts Studies class and we went to Palmer’s for a day to see all of the black art that they had. There was a good amount and they were very interesting.
Granted there shouldn’t be a time of the year to have a certain genre of art displayed. I do understand if there is a theme going on at a certain time but this did not seem to be the case. A lot of it seemed to be representative of the white culture. I believe seeing different cultures would be valued as well.
I will keep my hopes up and keep a lookout for more diverse art.
Okay, now to the pieces and my outfit of the day. ?
I really enjoyed this painting because the colors are so vibrant and bold. I also have been loving the color yellow a lot lately.
This piece was very simple in the idea of it but it was also very intricate in the actual makings of it, considering all of the details.
This one was super interesting and I really spent some time pondering what was going on. As my friend was taking the picture I was looking up at the very top at the angry boy until she got the shot and it started to frighten me a little. LOL. You can literally see it in my facial expression.
This one was really cool and this picture does it no justice. In person, the piece is actually 3 dimensional and comes up off of the wall. The lines were so mesmerizing.
This one was of Madonna if you can’t tell.
