DIY Skincare Series
Welcome to our new DIY skincare series! In this Series we will be exploring simple DIY products that are so easy you can make them in your kitchen.
Ingredients & Benefits
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa Butter is a rich moisturizer that deeply hydrates and locks in moisture, making it ideal for dry or flaky skin. Its antioxidants, like Vitamin E, help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Shea butter is an ultra-nourishing ingredient packed with vitamins A and E, known for its skin-healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes irritation, repairs the skin barrier, and provides long-lasting hydration.
Apricot Oil
Apricot oil is lightweight and easily absorbed, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth without any greasiness. Rich in fatty acids and Vitamin E, it improves skin texture and is gentle enough for sensitive or baby skin.
Rosehip seed oil is a powerful natural brightener that helps fade hyperpigmentation and scars thanks to its high vitamin A and C content. It deeply hydrates and promotes skin regeneration, leaving the skin radiant and rejuvenated.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint Essential Oil delivers a refreshing, cooling sensation that soothes irritation and invigorates the skin. With antimicrobial properties, it keeps the skin clean while boosting circulation for a healthy glow.
You will also need a hand or standing mixer, 6oz jars and spatulas.

Measure Your Ingredients
You can measure by measure it by weight by using a scale or you can measure it by volume using measuring cups. I opted to measure by weight. Here is a brief explanation of the difference between measuring by volume and measuring by weight:
Volume
- Refers to the space an ingredient takes up, typically measured in teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, or fluid ounces.
- Common for measuring liquids like oils or water-based ingredients.
- Example: Apricot Oil (2 oz by volume) means you would measure out 2 fluid ounces using a liquid measuring cup.
Weight
- Refers to the actual heaviness of an ingredient, typically measured in ounces (oz) or grams using a kitchen scale.
- Common for solid ingredients like butters or waxes.
- Example: Shea Butter (4 oz by weight) means you would place the shea butter on a kitchen scale and weigh 4 ounces.
What is the Double Boiler Method?
Double boil: place your bowl of butters over hot water.
Melt butters on low heat.
Carefully remove from heat.
Wipe the bottom of the bowl of all water.
Make sure no water gets in the mixture because it can cause bacteria to grow.
Mix oils and melted butter.
Place in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes.
Now Let’s Whip it Up!
After removing it from the refrigerator, it should be in between a liquid and a solid consistency as pictured below.
Add peppermint essential oil to the mix and then whip your butter.
Next, use either a hand mixer or a stand mixer to whip your body butter. This step incorporates air into the mixture, giving it a fluffy texture. I whipped mine on high to add more air, but you can adjust the speed to your preference. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure all the butter is fully integrated.
Your Buttery Smooth Body Butter is Ready to Enjoy!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and I am looking forward to seeing you all again for our next iteration of our DIY Skincare Series!
