My is Salimatou Soumare and my friends call me Sally; you’re apart of the crew now so you can too.
I know you may be thinking what does Nabila Raine mean and where did you get it from; so I’ll explain. Nabila Raine has a mixture of Egyptian and French origins. Nabila is Egyptian for “of noble character” and Raine is french for “Queen”. So put together we have “Queen of Noble Character.” I named my blog this because I want to strive to be a queen of noble character and I want my readers to strive to be individuals of noble character as well. I created Nablia Raine because I have a deep interest in helping others and giving my opinions on certain topics. This blog will be about everything from self love, how to make and save money, advice about life, do it yourself projects (DIYs), fashion and beauty. I am currently in college and these are the things that I deal with everyday so I know that there are many of you out there dealing with the same things and I want to put my two cents in to help you all.
I feel like one thing that sets me apart from most people around me is I am an African American hijabi. Like, literally African-American, my parents are from Mali, in West African. I was born in Philadelphia, Pa, along with my older brother. I go to a predominantly white institution so this is something that really makes me stand out. That has its benefits and it’s challenges to it but I am grateful for the experience. I am a proud Muslim woman and college has taught me so many new things about my self.
I am into making different crafts such as chokers, bracelets, skirts, pants, etc. I recently started making chokers one day this past summer just for fun. I showed some to my family and friends and they really encouraged me to keep going with them and start a small business. So, this summer I started a company called Nefertari Co. which you probably guessed is of Egyptian origin as well. This theme of Africa comes from my parents. They have made me become very in tune with my culture from a young age and it honestly just interests me. There is really so much out there to learn, it’s absolutely amazing. That’s another thing that I will stress on this blog is learning. We can’t go anywhere in life if we are not continuously learning about ourselves and the world around us!
I believe everything we do should be a step to making us better and the person we want to become in the future. This blog is about changing what we want for ourselves and being consistent and productive in the goals we set. I am a senior in college and at this time its very important to chase the things I want for myself. I believe I am at the point in my life where ideas and plans have great potential to be executed and eventually become successful. I believe consistency is one of the most important things needed to see growth in anything we want to pursue. That is why one goal of mine is to be consistent with this blog so I can help people and see my community grow along with me! I hope you are ready to join this journey of betterment, productivity, self-love, and happiness.
