Hey everyone! I feel like I’ve been gone forever! I have been super occupied with the start of the semester with RA training and the first week of classes. But, I am back with a my skin care “routine” and the products that I use.
Check out the video of me explaining my routine below.
Now, I put routine in quotation marks because I don’t really have a routine per se. I use products when I feel that my skin needs them. I believe the most important part to any form of care for yourself is you need to listen to your body. It will tell you exactly what it needs and that’s exactly what you should give it. I will try my best to quantify how often I use a product but it may not be that amount of time on every occasion. Okay, so let’s get into it!
1. Cleansing Wipes
The first step to my glow skin care routine starts with taking make up off of my face. We need to start with a semi clean base to get the maximum results.
I use the Simple Cleaning Facial Wipes to take makeup off my face. These wipes come with a lot of product on them and they cleanse my face very well. At least as much a cleansing wipe has the ability to. I have used many facial wipes that are very dry and don’t seem to get anything off, but with these wipes that is not the case.
You can purchase them down below if you would like to give them a try.
2. Face Wash
Next, we have face wash to get the actual dirt and residue off of the face. After I use my cleaning wipes to take off my makeup I wash my face. Typically, I use African Black Soap to wash my face because it gives my skin a gentle but deep clean without drying it out too much.
If I don’t use African Black Soap I use Cetaphil Facial Wash. This is also a very gentle cleanser that gets rid of dirt and make up effectively.
I usually play this by how my skin is feeling and if it needs more of a deep clean or not. If I think it does need more of a deep clean than I use the African Black soap along with my Conair Spin brush. I brought my brush at Walmart for $15 and
it works like a charm. I don’t believe that it is necessary to buy a super expensive spin brush but if that’s what floats your boat, go for it!
In the black soap info sheet I don’t use that particular brand of black soap, I just used that picture as an example. I purchase my black soap from an African shop in the city of Philadelphia. You can also purchase it on amazon or eBay.
You can purchase Cetaphil below.. Be sure to search for the cheapest price you can find for all of the products that I mentione. I’m all about saving the coins!
3. Exfoliator
If I feel like my face needs a extra deep cleanse I will exfoliate.
Exfoliating is useful because it gets rid of all of the dead skin and excess oils on you can skin that can potentially clog your pores. You should exfoliate at least twice a week. I exfoliate almost everyday because that is what works for me.
I use the Acne Dote Maximum Strength Exfoliator by Alba Botanica. I absolutely love this stuff. It has peppermint essential oils in it and that leaves a nice tingly sensation on my face. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth, soft, and refreshed! The smell of this is citrusy but it isn’t too strong and I love it! I am almost out and I will be buying another soon.
I brought this from the Natural section in Walmart. But it can also be purchase on amazon, linked down below..
4. Face Mask
Next, I have face masks. I use these as appropriate and also understand that I don’t do all of these steps in one day.
The face mask that I use is the Garnier Skin Active: 2 in 1 Charcoal Clay Cleanser/Mask Cleanser. This works well for me even though it states that it is for oily skin. I have dry skin but I still need the purifying properties just not as often as someone with oily skin.
It can be purchased below..
6. Primer/ Toner
Toning is honestly the favorite part of my skin care routine. I say this because when I tone my face I am able to get all of the residue and makeup left on my face even after I wash my face.
To tone my face I use Witch Hazel by the Dickinson’s brand. Witch Hazel is something that I have been in love with ever since I was introduced to it. I use a cotton ball to apply the product because then I am able to get the left over product on my face.
So, once I feel like I got everything with my witch hazel then I use my Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rose water. This stuff is the bomb because it gives my face a very nice refresher! I use this product even when my face simply feel dry and needs I boost. It can also be use to set make up! I love products that are multidimensional and can be use for multiple things! More bang for you buck. 😊
Check them out below.
6. Moisturizers
So, to moisturize my face I have two different set of moisturizers.
The first moisturizer I use is for the day time or when I am wearing make up and it’s the Ponds Facial Cream for Dry Skin. This product is thick in consistency and brings lots of moisture to my face. Since I have dry skin I use a lot of it and it seeps right into my skin. There is a lot of product that comes in these containers and it’s only about $5 from Walmart. I’ll be sure to link it it down below.
Next, is my night time or “I’m not going anywhere” moisturizers. I use oils to moisturize my
face during those times because they have such great properties. I switch between oils but notably jojoba oil is for sure one of my favorites.
These can also be purchased below..
7. Breakouts
I tend to get breakouts on my forehead more than anything. So, when that does happen I use Tea tree oil to combat them and it works like a charm.
It is important to dilute your Tea tree oil with a carrier before you actually use it because Tea tree oil is a very strong essential oil. It can cause opposite affects on your skin if you do not dilute it. I usually dilute my Tea tree oil with the coconut oil that I mentioned earlier. So, just add a couple of drops into a larger amount of a carrier oil and you should be good to go.
After I do the fore mentioned steps above (take my make up off, wash my face, exfoliate or use a face mask, and then moisturizer) I then use the Tea tree oil. This usually goes along with my night time routine so I don’t have oil dots on my face during the day!
Tea tree oil can be purchased here..
8. Lip Balm
The last step of my routine is to keep my lips moisturized. It is especially important to keep our lips
moisturized especially in colder temperatures I use the cute little EOS lip balms because they are very moisturizing and contain shea butter and vitamin E along. They also have great flavors, so if you happen to swallow it then you will have a pleasant flavor to taste.
This lip balm can be purchased here..
So, there you have it. This is my skin care routine and most of the products that I use on my face.
